At what point did I become addicted?

In the past 16 months I have bought 4 MB's. I spend my weekends trolling
u pull it yards for parts, I spend more time stalking craigslist and ebay for
MB's than I spend with my wife. It has taken over........when did I lose control?

right about the time you started your first one... or it may have been when you noticed the first problem with your first one. for me it was when I realized how easy they were to work on and how they responded to a bit of work and care.

Make sure the one with the nicest interior and exterior absolutely purrrrrs. The wife gets to drive that one!

Have you had this conversation with your wife on a saturday yet? It starts off:

"I know I said we would go out to dinner tonight, but this one bolt is stuck...."(as you stand there w/ grease up to your elbows and dinner hour passes you by).

Smile Hey! me too!

In the past 14 months I bought 4 MB's. I spend more time than I should monitoring this forum, and cruising craigslist for a "smokin deal". My bedtime reading matterials are now the 123 & 126 FSM's.

I think it started when I plunked down the money for my first one, a '82 300SD that has only run 4 months of the last 14.

Oh well at least this addiction provides something of value, like transportation(sometimes anyway).

I think John nailed it by mentioning how they respond to a little work and care.
I bought my '79 240D from a Salvation Army lot for $300.00. The previous owner was very cruel to the car and pretty much left it for dead. The more biodiesel I dumped into this car, the better it ran. With very little tinkering here and there, I saw this car crawl out of the grave to become a dependable daily driver within a month.
I found another 240D for $500.00 that wouldn't start, all it needed was a glow plug. Fortunately I was able to sell that second car to a friend before the OCD kicked in.

Yes, these things sneak up on you! When you weren't looking, or suspecting. Insidious is too strong a term, but it's close.

Judging from cars you been buying Jack, I'd say the addiction began when you realized NOTHING built in last 20 yrs compares with square body classics. My advice is regressing even further. Seek out 1970's MB 114/115/116 cars while they're still available as daily drivers.

(edit: And NEVER hesitate throwin dough into rescue missions where car costs about $1000 or less originally. Reconnoitre $5k ceiling outa keep any old Vintage MB afloat as daily driver next 12 yrs at least in perfect condition. Understand uncommon dignity of 27-35 yr old vehicles outclassing anything built since '85. And MB Dealerships sellin new cars will scretly agree on this.

This is true. I don't even consider anything built after 85

Start allocating funds NOW for more acreage, a large(r) garage, cement floor, of course, with radiant floor heat, central A/C, you'll thank yourself later, at least one lift, enough room to invite other MB heads over, a catering service nearby, would be a plus. Satellite tv for the races, refrigerator, obviously. Plumb for a parts washer, plenty of light too. Several rolling tool chests. Oh, and one of those drain-into-a-drum fluid catchers. What did I forget?

See how easy this is?

Just you being adicted isn't so bad: I'm adicted too, but it's my wife who finds and buys many of the steel and chrome beauties that we've owned over the last 40-years. She bought the '59 219, 220D, 240D 300D,and the 300SD (also screwed up and bought a 190D 2.5 - the car MB should never have built and an ML320 - proof MB shouldn't build cars in Alabama, a 911E Porshe - not a good car at all and a Land Rover Disco - not nearly as easy to work on as 123 and 126 cars). I have only been able to buy 3 300CDs, 2 190 SLs,a 380SL and a G280E.

hmm, 1.6 acres, 1700 Sq foot garage with Loft for storage, no lift yet, but I am working on it. room in back for a loading dock, or a pit... thinking pit personally. turning one bay into a paint booth. gonna lay down a 1.5" pour for radiant heat... two 3.5ton A/C systems. two Snap on tool chests, TONS of shelf space. I got two 350 small blocks sitting on them, and the ONAN diesel generator on the shelf as well... did I mention plenty of shelf space? over 32 cars currently in possession, do I qualify for crazy?
