Sounds like I'm up to snuff then (other than the antigel.)

Don't forget the anti-gell, if your fuel gells you are really SOL.
I have used Power Service in the white bottle for years, its cheap and they claim that if the fuel gells they will pay for your tow.

You may be able to find out from your fuel station if they add anything to the fuel, I also use Power Service, but the silver/gray jug, no anti gel, don't need it around here. I use it for the cetane boost properties. This is interesting.

Interesting reading... sounds like, since cetane plateaus at 55, you can't really OD (other than financially) with a cetane booster. I'm assuming you can add a cetane booster to an antigel agent without adverse affects? The reason I ask is that I have quite a bit of antigel that I use for my tractor (has no cetane booster) and the cetane booster/injector cleaner I bought for my 123 has no antigel component.

Yes, as a matter of fact, Power Service in the white jug has both, but no lubricants. Nowadays, I add a bit of ATF at every fill up, so I could use either one, don't know the price difference. I've noticed slightly increased fuel mileage also, with just ATF.
Just replaced fuel filters in the SD today, and use PS to fill up the secondary filter, cracked open the banjo bolt on top, primed the primary filter, started up normal, coughed twice, then steady idling. I agree on the more not harmful thought, I filled up one time at a Texaco, or Shell station that had 50 cetane. I like to put as much in my favor as I can, and do not want to be stranded anywhere, I leave work at 4:30 am, no electrical outlet to plug in the block heater. PS only in winter.

I will probably use Power Service this winter too. I'm going to pick some up this week so I am ready when I fill my tank next (still over a week until I will need to do that.)
Since the stuff is fairly expensive, how much do you usually add to the tank for an "optimal cetane boost, without being too much/overkill"? I only use about a 1 to 1.5 tanks a month during the winter, so cost isn't a huge issue....but I'd still like to know I'm not needlessly wasting it. When you say you are adding ATF to the tank....how much are you adding? And is it just normal generic dino dexron? I've heard it can cause injector coking if you do this....?

I used the Howes as their brown "Meaner Cleaner" mixed very well with the bio/dino mix I run.
Love the 606. Starts right up. ( the 95 has no black boxes, but has the plastic shroud.) Unfortunatly I might be finding out how easy they are to work on this winter as I might pull the head for a freshening. |

Do you have any reading regarding the ATF addition? I'm curious about the perceived benefits...

landev,
I don't think anything after the 616/617 engines is easy to fix. Just changing the GP on my 603 engine was a major undertaking, in my opinion. I shouold not have to take off the intake manifold, just to change the GP. The engine should have been designer for easier access to the GP. And those cheap (and I mean low quality, not low cost) plastic clips on the 603 fuel injection lines are a disgrace to MB. What happened to the metal clips that were on the 617 engines that never broke. P E H |

but that tractor with the twin block heaters just purred along... no cab, driving through a blizzard... no fun.
