The fact that Gerard Depardieu sat in it... might actually lower the price.

Very likely the real car.

VERY few cars survived from that era in Cambodia. I remember seeing pictures of Phnom Penh after the evacuation back in 1975 when the city was a ghost town. Cars were stacked up like cordwood on the streets of the city. I remember in one pile seeing a Ponton.

This car fits the historical profilefor being Pol Pot's car. It is a 1973 "lang" limo, and Pol Pot's regime lasted from 1975-1979, so it was probably his..

Actually it might have belonged to the Pro West dictator, Lon Nol, who may have gotten it there in 1973 as new, during his rule from 1970-1975, and Pol Pot likely took it over from him when he got to the Presidential Palace in April 1975.
The Daimler Benz historical archives would need to be contacted,
Archives would possibly have more information on the car.

It is amazing it survived, and was found in 2001 being used to transport watermelons to the market in the capital. The assertion that the paperwork has been destroyed is in this one case totally credible, because in the agrarian revolution of Pol Pot, EVERYTHING paper was destroyed, even Bank Currency, so thepaperwork would have been lost then.

The car is most likely the real deal, and a collector watching it on Youtube

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMkMgXaZMkk traversing the stgreets of Cambodia, would likely be convinced it was really the real deal.

In a sad way, though, seeing it up for sale at 35,000 GBP, on EBAY, ffs, suggests yet another sad memorial of the looting of National Treasures of Cambodia, in a small way, that has gone on for decades, in Angkor Wat, Siem Reap, Phnom Penh, and other places.

The country, and its sweet, gentle people, have suffered unimaginably, over the last genereations.

I would certainly like to visit there. The scenery is lovely, Angkor Wat is magical, the food is exquisite, with its subtle French flavors and influence, and the people are kind and gentle - (the refugees in California I have met) and almost all of them have been touched very personally by the genocide that occurred from 1975-1975.

How ironic that the limousine of the war criminal survived to carry watermelons to market years after the regime perished.. It would have been fitting somehow if the car remained in the country, but so long as part of the proceeds of the sale, will truly go to a children's charity, as claimed by the ebay seller, then perhaps the car should be let go to an appreciateive collector.

Wow!!

I don't think I'd like to use that lifting arrangement to change oil in the car.

Too much.

That would be just too creepy owning a car that once belonged to such a truly evil despot. To each his own, I suppose.

Indeed, but such a carriage is a piece of history. And the fact that a sanguinary despot laid his ass on that seat make it more valuable in my eyes that a celebrity car...

It would look good alongside Hitlers MB in Canada, they could even put one of Saddam's in their.

MB's are driven by all the nut jobs, you never see a dictator driving a Lexus or Jag.
