Brake $$ saver?
My brake pads on all 4 corners are about 65% remaining and my rotors look like they could used a turning, but aren't horribly grooved. should I turn the rotors and continue with the 65% pads? or turn with new pads?
What do YOU guys think?

If it's wearing rotors down that fast I'd think you could afford to go one more run with those pads. Just turn them and go one more time and then replace everything regardless next time. That's my $.02

If it is braking strong and smooth, why bother with it at all?

I'd just leave them alone for now, if the rotor is still thick enough.
then when its time for new pads, do rotors too. |

If braking is fine leave them for now.
Don't turn MB rotors.

I don't think you can turn MB rotors.

The amount of material on a MB rotor that can be worn away before it is below spec is not much, and turning it just takes away a bunch of that material. Thats why you are supposed to just go with new rotors.

The W123 FSM contains no prohibition on rotor resurfacing.

What if you don't use OEM rotors?
As far as I know mine are "Standard" but they seem to have plenty of leeway for turning at least once. And they need it... it's a shame they're so hard to deal with since they aren't the "floating" kind - when I hit the brakes lightly at speeds above 50 or 60, it nearly shakes the GPS off the dash - feels like it's tearing things up. it isn't but it's nearly that rough. Hit them harder and it smooths out but I can also feel it pulsing at low speed braking... they're definitely grooving or warping or something. |

I have always heard not to turn rotors because MB uses a softer type of metal. when they get down to whatever the spects are, just replace them.
I have looked through the FSM also and can`t find any where it says that. Maybe it`s some where in the Haynes manual. When my pads wear down, I just throw on another pair and keep on truckin. when the rotors get too thin, I replace them. I like new rotors, they are pretty and shinny. too bad they aren`t stainless and I can have them polished up . Charlie
