My car got louder, maybe due to colder weather?

Did your car get louder suddenly? My car often purrs like a kitten, but the last day or two it has gotten louder.

Normally, I'll used Diesel Kleen to keep the car quieter, and I hadn't used it in the last tank or two, so that could be part of the problem. I just added a bit more yesterday, but it will take a while to work.

I thought maybe the cooler weather might be making the engine louder, and/or maybe cooler weather helps noises travel better? I don't know.

Thanks,

Jeff 1991 300d, 112k

Mine is louder when its cold out too. Valvetrain noise, has always done it for the past 60k miles....oh well. Our other two don't seem to do it. My valves are all adjusted (less than 1k ago) and I run synthetic oil and the camshaft is in absolutely perfect shape. Who knows. Different engine in my case though.

My noise is only at idle though. Raising the idle even a little bit (less than 100rpm) and its gone.
