Need help wiring up my new engine (little black box!)
I got my engine into my newest Benz 300sd, and got it all hooked up, liquidized, and ready to turn over. The only thing holding me back is some wiring questions.
The little black distribution box on the passenger side of the engine bay, around the fenderwell, next to the alternator is where my questions come in. I am posting up a picture of what I am talking about. Currently, I have my wires wired up like this: |purple blue |white white |purple blue |red white red All of these wires are contained in 3 "bundles." By bundles, I mean there are 9 total wires that come wrapped in black plastic wire wrap in 3 bundles. I think there is 1 bundle of 2, 1 bundle of 4, and one bundle of 3. ALSO, the two purple wires and a red and white wire both go to 1 terminal connector (2 wires per 1 terminal connector), so there are actually only 7 terminal connectors that can be screwed into this black box. I've denoted this in my little list with "|" next to the wires that go to a single terminal connector. There are obviously 4 screws in the box, and my little list shows how I currently have the wires. I have a feeling something is in the wrong place, because my engine cranks over BUT barely. And I know the starter is good because it worked like a charm before I took this motor out of the last car. Please help! Owners of a 300sd (mine has an '82 engine), just peep under your hood and pop open that little black box and let me know how yours is wired up. I really would like to know, because I would be so happy if this thing would start up with no problems. Also, if any wiring diagram can be recommended, I'd greatly appreciate it, as I have none and I can't seem to find any. Last edited by bulletproofair; 10-31-2007 at 08:28 PM. Reason: forgot pic |

Thanks!
I think I have it wired correctly...although one of my white wires is red on yours. I think the red has just faded or come off of mine. |
