Rearend mystery 84 300d

I was heading home from the tech meet in Mt Vernon Tx .over the weekend and had a noise clatter from the passenger rear about half way home, pulled off the road to inspect the tire and no problem .The rest of the trip went ok ,just slowed my speed down a bit ,when driving up to the house the rearend seemed noisey again ,today I raised it up and noticed some slack in the tire when I spun it ,then checked the driveshaft dampner ,front and rear ,they seemed fine with no cracks, went to recheck the slack and their was none noticable like it had before, whats up?

Half shaft is most likely I would guess....

What would make it tighten up again after fiddeling with it?I had 4 inches of movement of the tire before it would catch and move the axle ,then after getting up under it to move the driveshaft by hand ,it checked out fine.In the half shaft boot area is their something destroyed or slipping?

Take a look at the sway bar links. When they break, it intermittently makes a hellacious racket.

Sometimes a stuck caliper can mimic other noises at higher speeds. If possible, jack up the corner of the car and spin the wheel or see if that wheel is nuclear hot. Stuck calpiers can come and go as well so that may explain the intermittentness of the problem. Just a thought.

I think slack is pretty normal, I know that one of (both really) of my half shafts need replacement. Is the slackness not normal?

It was a noticable difference in play ,when jacking the car up it also had clicking sound .Now I cant recreate either noise or slack,Ill keep messing with it and give back the results .
