Remember to always open the fill first. If you open the drain and cannot get the fill plug out for whatever reason, you are screwed.

As many have mentioned, a lift will give you room for more leverage.
pawoSD has a very good solution, yet be sure to remove your fill plug FIRST.

Yeah forgot to mention that. I've found the fill plug usually opens ok with some use of the arm-engines ( ) but you can use the lifting method on that one too if its stuck.

Mine came right out with just a few ounces of pressure - on the trigger of the impact wrench.

I don't have a lift OR an impact wrench, but I do have a floor jack and stands, so I'll go with pawoSD's suggestion.

Exactly. This is the only solution that should be utilized.

The reason that it works so well is that the housing is aluminum and it doesn't take much heat to separate the threads.

Any other struggles with massive torque are just ridiculous.

You can always get the fill plug out. In fact, getting it out is easier without any oil in the housing to draw the heat from a torch.

I don't have a torch, may be a good reason to get another tool!
Any suggestions?

Just a simple propane torch is all you need. I'd suggest the cheap Berz-o-Matic, but the new plastic one is such a POS that there must be something else out there that does a better job.

But buy MAPP gas for it. It burns much hotter.

Yep, I remember. He used a Hazet oil service wrench and a come-along.

Yep, there was another version where he jacked up the car, fit the wrench into the plug at a downward angle, and then lowered the car onto the wrench.

The struggles with 18" breaker bars, impact wrenches, using the weight of the vehicle to crack the plug loose and all the remaining BS is just ridiculous.

1 minute with a propane torch........after draining the oil..........and the plug will move so easily that you'll fall over on your face if you planned to lean into it.

Kerry's right about the Mapp gas, but, you're heating an aluminum housing by not more than 100 degrees. Propane will do just fine.
