Help Glow Plug Tip broke Off In Head

Hi Guy's
My 1983 300D #4 cylinder broke off was turning had a little resistance then when i pulled plug no electrode. What are my options Pull the head, remove prechamber for access or would starting engine blow it out? tried using a pick even a small easy out but couldn't get a bite on it.

Thanks for the info!

thanks should have worded better.
The glow pug tip is still in the head tight the threaded part of plug came out.
Is there a danger of tip dropping into cylinder or is there a journal in prechamber that prevents this?

I think you have one of 3 choices remove the injector and push the glow plug tip (carefully with a punch) all the way into the precombustion chamber; remove the heat shield and hope you can fish it out from there. If you can,t fish it out remove the precombustion chamber (from the pic I will try to insert it looks like you cannot remove the precombustion chamber with the electrode in place).
2nd Remove the injector and head shield and see if you can push it from the inside out. Use something that won't damage the precombustion chamber.
the 3rd way may is riskier: dirll and tread the inside of the electrode; put a screw into it attatched to a slide hammer (if it will clear the oil filter houseing) and slide hammer it out.
Embarresed! I need a URL to insert a picture and I do not have one.

Can someone send beamer123 that picture that is in a lot of manuals showing the crossection of the precombustion chamber with the injector and glow plug!!!

Also one of the members is a Mercedes Master Mechanic can someone pass his name on the beamer123. I am sure he would know the best way to remove the busted glow plug end.

Just a thought... You might be able to take the inj. out and push air in to the piston and blow the glow plug chunk out. For that matter it might pop out from the engine compression with a little cranking as long as it is not loose in the cyl.

If you do this besure to disconnect the fuel injection line to the injector so that the injector on that cylinder gets no fuel and that cylinder dose not fire. In case it dose shoot out put some sort of barrier (a bunch of rags, cardboard) so it dose not shoot out and damage something else.

A man where I used to work had a stuck pencil type injector and decided to start the engine leaving the fuel line connected. That injector fired shot out of the engine, breaking the fuel injection line and was stopped by the big dent in put in the hood.

Had this happen in tractor motors where the glow plug had been in them for decades..
Take the glow out and crank the motor over and BANG like a 22 shooting.

Don't be looking at it or over it, you will get shot.

Put a 100 miles on it didnt blow out yet...may have to put a piece of wood between the opening and the ip so the ip doesnt get shot.
