How to perform the "de-oiling" process?
 

Folks, I'm considering running a citric acid flush on my 1983 300D before next summer, and a prerequisite to that is doing a "de-oiling". Does anyone have any information on either of these processes that they would like to share? I am aware that the citric acid crystals can be purchased from the dealer, but was wondering if anyone had any insights on whether or not these tasks were worth the time, or any other experiences they may wish to share.

I feel that if your cooling system has been serviced regularly and the old coolant comes out nice and clean that you don't need to deoil or descale. But if you do decide that it needs it, I just used Liquid Tide to deoil. Some use Shout or liquid dish washing soap. Mercedes also sells their own product. I put about a cup of Tide in, filled it up and ran it. Can't remember if I drove it for a day or not but I at least got it up to temp and allowed it to circulate through the entire system. Then drain and flush well. Do the same with the citric acid.

I am doing this right now.

I used half a cup of powdered tide, dissolved in warm water and dumped it in. Ran car at idle, thermostat removed, for 30 minutes to circulate around. Oil certainly comes out, and I didnt have any oil in my coolant prior.
