'98 Check engine light - What's the secret...

...to get it to shut off. I've fixed all the offending sensors but I did hear somewhere that the engine has to have x number of successful start cycles. I tried starting the engine, shutting it down, pulling the key, re-inserting and doing it all over again about 6 or 7 times but to no avail...

Is there a length of time or a need to actually drive the car between cycles, what am I doing wrong???

Thanks!

What code is it? Some will turn themselves off after 3 cold/hot run cycles if fault doesnt reoccur, others won't and have to be cleared.

You can clear them with an OBDII scanner or by pulling the batt cable for 30 minutes. Doing the latter doesnt tell you what the code was and may result in having to re-sync windows, seats, key, etc.

I'm sure it was a glow plug code. I had to replace one because the glow coil light stayed on after starting. You know, I'm extra dumb because I can't even find the battery on this car... Not that I've looked very hard but dang, most of the time it's right out where you can see it...

So you can't just start/stop the engine, it has to cool then warm up and cool again?

Batt is under rear seat.

If was PO380 GP Circut Malfunction it will clear itself.

One run cycle is cold start to 80C and back to cld again before restart. Is 1.5 days if a daily driver driven back and forth to work only.
