Air Bubbles around injectors OM603 Need Info

I just transplanted a 3.0 OM603 in a 94 W140 car. Engine has not been started for around 5 years, has 112K miles on it, runs and sounds good.

The return lines were rotted and fuel pooled around the injectors and I noticed air bubbles around all of the injectors' bases.

What needs to be done in order to fix. Thanks in advance.

I love these cars!

I'd like to see the answer to this, but it sounds like pre-chambers.

my 123 did that after sitting for years as well so -- we just started driving it and it has stopped -- we also were getting at first a fuel smell but it has gone away as well - i kind of expect it to come back this winter when its real cold in the morning -- jz

I'd torque them to spec and forget them unless it doesnt run well.

New heat shields wouldn't hurt. While they're out, you might have them pop tested... and cleaned. Where does it end???

Air Bubles

Thanks for the info. The engine runs smoothly. I took it for a drive, 150 miles, and had too add 3 qts of oil. It has as much power as a 240D with an automatic trans. I think that I have greater problems than the leak around the injectors. I probably have some frozen ring problems, valve cover blow-by does not seem excessive, but normal. I will do a compression check first and probably pull the head and have a look.

Then can you tell me Dave how to finish putting the soft-top up on a '70 280SL? I have the top up, rear latched down and hard-tonneau latched down, but the top won't extend forward the last 8inches to the windshield. First time, ... and I'm stumped. I see you have one.
