What do you guys think? Worth it?

Hello all. New here. I currently have a 2002 F350 with a Powerstroke Diesel. This truck has converted me to a diesel lover. I am thinking of buying a used Mercedes diesel for a commuter car. I stumbled across this and was looking to get input.

1984 Mercedes 300D turbo diesel. Does not currently run, ran when parked, will need to be towed. Will need new battery and some brake work. 377k on car, only 80k on engine. Power everything (it all works). Interior in very good condition, body has some rust spots. Includes brand new calipers in boxes as well as brake pads.

What do you guys think/ Is she worth buying?

Thanks

Why gamble on a non-runner?

I buy broken manual 240Ds for parts cars, considering its a 300D turbo BUT it doesn't drive I would think no more $500- $800 maybe not even that with rust. A friend has a 85 turbo 300D with a bad tranny, no rust, he sold for $700 and it was on Craigs List for a while.

Seems like the general rule on this forum is no more than 500 for a parts car.
You aren't too far off. You can probably find a runner for a thousand. Some guys can find excellent cars for less than 2500. Some like that Geico commercial, pay too much...

If the engine has indeed only about 80k miles on it, buy it. If anything you can get your money back on selling the engine and make a few bucks to boot.
