Question Whats the difference between the 615 & 616?

Will the parts on a 615 engine work on a 616 engine, besides the cylinder piston displacement what the difference? Its a 4 cyl

Short answer...Basically one more cylinder on the aft end of the engine. Theres a bigger difference between a non turbo 617 and the turbo 617.

I don't think Mercedes ever made a 3cyl for these cars, so I'm guessing both engines he is asking about have 4 cyl's.....

I think it just had to do with the bore/stroke numbers to go from 2.2L to 2.4L.

At some point the main bearings went from 3 to 5 in the 616
