Evaporation of gas contributes to smog. I would call the local health department and inquire about disposing of gas. In the worst case just burn it, but I'd worry it could get out of control.

Not like we're talking about a tanker full of the stuff. Gas will try to get out of hand if you lean over it while you strike the match... but i'd just get a metal pail (a sturdy one) and fill it partway with dirt. Add a slosh of the gas, and drop in the match. Don't throw gas into a burning fire but just let the dirt-in-the-bucket absorb the gas and then light it off and walk away for a while.
When they dig out your old leaky underground oil tank and test the soil to be too oily :-/ ...... they just dig up the dirt, truck it to an incinerator, and literally just burn the dirt until the oil is gone. Just do a miniature version of that if you're worried. or dig a hole, dump it in, cover it up, and forget about it... if this was a tanker full it would be different. Or, take it to the local box site for trash drop-off, there's usually a barrel there that you can dump used motor oil and stuff in... there's probably a facility there for fuel too. We have a wood stove so that's what usually happens to it... Just throwing ideas out. Burning the gas mixed with dirt isn't a bad idea. 20 gallons of gas isn't going to contribute to "smog" or global warming or anything at all significantly. |

Just to clarify what I said last time, the smog contribution happens only when gas evaporates. When it burns it's OK, it's mostly just CO2.

Don't hurt an innocent Mercedes. What did it ever do to you?
I would say the only worse thing you could do is cut some cold WVO with old gas and then put it in your single tank veggie conversion. Ha!

Wow, plenty of "sky is falling" in this thread!
I've put 34,000 miles on cold WVO blended with gasoline, about 5-10% gas. No mods to the car. Blend it into the SD and get some use out of it!

8 months is the shelf life of gasoline and 6 months for diesel according to most reference books I have been reading. I have been runing 2 year old gasoline in my turbo eclipse and I was getting knock...so not don't use that old gasoline, diesel NOT mix them!

????? I've put 34,000 miles without incident! That's over 1300 gallons of NON-diesel through my IP, through my cylinders! Please tell me exactly how many gallons of NON-diesel I can put in before my engine "blows up". BTW, 1300 gallons yields a savings of at least $2600, which goes very far in replacing/rebuilding an engine that was "destroyed" by using NON-diesel. Things that could possibly "blow up" and their replacement costs (estimated): IP: Rebuilt unit...$800 Scored cylinders requiring engine resleeve/rebuild...$1500 Seized engine requiring replacement...$800 Replacement injectors...$130 None of this has happened yet, but when/if it does, I'm ready. How can you fault my decision from a fiscal standpoint?

The 1300 gallons isn't free. How much is your time worth? You need to put a dollar value on your time and calculate that in.

Quote:
The RUG to blend (at 10%) would be about $0.30 (if gas is $3 per gallon)for a finished gallon. Add $0.05 per gallon max for a filter cartridge, puts the total at $0.35 per gallon, plus one hour of my time for 24 gallons. 10 minutes of electricity to run the pump is negligible. One time cost to set up the filter system...about $50. 1300 x .35 = $455 Current diesel price: 1300 x $3.25 = $4225 Savings by blending $3720 so far. I was mistaken on the $2600 estimate.
