Egr

Would disconnecting the EGR allow for my car to have a little more power? Also could i connect the pcv valve to a little filter, instead if to the intake manifold. I'm guess this is illegal, but...just wondering about the input

Thanks

Were you to post your car, you may get answers. Diesels have an EGR system, at least many years do. Yet no PVC filter, depending on car maybe.

I am unfamiliar with your car, and cannot help, I'm sure others are tho. If you put that info in your signature, you will not need to enter it every time. Or in the thread title.

Yes, killing the EGR will increase MPG and give you a bit more power.

I'd leave the CCV attached to the intake. Having it open to the air will make visible vapor and an oil odor around the car, even with a filter.

As Forced Induction said, killing the EGR will improve performance a little. It won't increase maximum power however because your accelerator linkage should have a switch that cuts it off when you floor it.

I also agree with him on leaving the ccv attached. A filter will do no good unless you have a way to drain the oil back into the engine. The small amount of oil ingested won't hurt any thing. Besides, since you paid for it, you might as well burn it as fuel rather than dump it into the atmosphere You want a vacuum in your crank case. It reduces the amount of air thrown around by the pistons inside the engine and can slightly increase the power at the top end.

Mine runs a bit smoother w/o the EGR on. It ** might** get 1-2 mpg more too.

Even reading the threads about it, I'm still unclear exactly what to disconnect/plug with a BB in order to disconnect the EGR without actually physically removing valves and stuff.

I keep meaning to do it at some point, though.

Isnt rocket science, heck simply put a nail into the end of vacuum line to seal it. These guys use a BB so you can keep the line on the EGR to look right. uh, I actually used a bullet, since I reload, I gots plenty. In the line, not the EGR btw. Cant remember if it was a .224 or a .243. Hornady ballistic tip though, so I can grab the plastic end with pliers and pull it if need be.

Another benefit is longer oil life, and less crud in the ALDA banjo bolt. If your's is plugged then all is well.

I thought that if you block the EGR you have to provide air flow to replace what was lost form the EGR?
WINGAS, I also have a 95 and wanted to block it. I thought the correct way was to cover the pipe from the exhaust with a piece of metal, and then some way filter the air that is drawn in through that opening in the intake, otherwise there is less than the correct amount of air flow?
