Hmm I guess I'm full of it and don't know what that hose was there for or if it even had oil in it. Might as well be power steering fluid and the engine just had low oil level to begin with.

ah i know your problem, The only way that any fluid will ever pool in your motor mount crevace. is when its dumped from overhead, the oilpan is too low. i belive its your powersteering hose. but i would start the engine and check for oilpressure just in case.

Anyone else getting the ad for pro-age body lotion on this page? I doubt it's going to do much for your oil leak. I think it's reading the content of our discussion differently than we are.

Was it not possible to tell which one dumped on the ground by it's color?
The power steering fluid would be almost clear and have a different smell in comparison to the sooty engine oil...

I'm getting that ad too. I'm beginning to wonder if the pro-age body lotion was directed at the cars or the owners. Damn, I feel violated....

Cheap insurance

I put a skid plate on my 123 a year ago. It should still be available. About $125.

Bleh.. There's a slow power steering leak but the oil pan is destroyed all the same. There's a crack just at the edge of the back side of it that wasn't possible to see. So it WAS the oil pan. Ordering parts now..

Ok, you want a mixnmatch story.....
My 80 had a tossed rod in it when I got it, the pan had a few dents but looked fixable with a ballpeen hammer. It came with a 617 engine from a rolled car (I was told) The pan on that one was smushed pretty bad and had grass/mud mashed to it. I decided to swap pans since they are the same, pulling the 617 off revealed a shattered pickup assembly, pulling the 616 off revealed a shattered and S-shaped oil pump I contemplated if the 617 was ok...how long had it run with that smashed pickup in the wreck...
I cleaned all off really well, no smell of burnt oil, no evidence of damage beyond the pickup, used the 616 pickup and pan to fix it and she's been going strong over a year now.

I don't understand how people crack the oil pans in these cars. I have driven W126's for the past 4 almost 5 years now and I have never scratched an oil pan let alone crack/dent it. I have driven them all over New England, on road, off road, building sites, ect. I had my SDL on a torn up building lot yesterday, following my uncles Ford F150, no issues.

To crack the oil pan you have to high center it on a pretty good curb or rock, steering around such things would be a good idea. These are not Humvee's.

This is going to sould odd but you should thank your Girlfriend. Many women I have met seem unable to focus on anything but opening the door the use of the brake, gas pedel, ignition switch and that vanity mirror. After that they have 0 intrest in the car until they hear loud noises or see smoke. You Girl hit the bump and caused the leak but she was had the presence of mind to notice the leak. More importantly She had enough sense to do the right thing and call you when other women might have driven away in the car. I think it is a good Idea to tell people when they have done something ritht!

Unlike my friend's daughter, who borrowed her Mom's '90 BMW 325i convertible one Saturday night, went speeding down a dirt road, ran over a rock, punched a fist-sized hole in the pan, then kept on driving until the engine racket became almost deafening. This a few months after Mom spent about $2000 on major repairs, including a new camshaft, followers and timing-belt!

Happy Motoring, Mark
