Diesel thread, thread

Who here thinks that the different diesel engines should get their own category in the forums?

There would be a cat. for the 4 and 5 cylinder engines and one for the 6 cylinder engines and then the electronically controlled engines.

When you separate stuff out too much you run the risk of an important to you thread not being noticed. My first 2 years on the forum I only looked at the diesel, OT and vintage.

This system works great already. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Putting your engine number (617/606//etc) in the header, would help. This way the reader immediately knows which engine is the subject, and when doing a search, the searcher can get results specifially to that engine.

That idea would hurt the forum far more than it would help.

Many of the Diesel crowd have valuable experience with more than one model...

Please understand that this forum is more than simply the provider of information on how to fix your specific engine. If that was the only goal, your suggestion would be valid and we would immediately incorporate it. You really don't care much about the solutions for a 606 when you've got a 617.

However, we've got a sense of community here.............more than any other forum on M-Shop, and possibly more than any other M/B location on the web. You may not benefit personally regarding the trials and tribulations that a member has with his 606, but you may appreciate the struggle and enjoy following the thread.

Were we to seperate the forum into discreet entities, this sense of community would be lost. There are several web sites that have divided their offerings into many small pieces.............each forum is devoid of any life.

It's not going to happen here.
