i dont want the factory 1 cos of my IC pipeing , and it holds a little heat that i dont like

but i cant go to small and restrict air flow, what is the smallest u can go , k&n flows more so a smalller 1 would work but " they are junk"

so im undecided and i cant "NOT" drive my benz so ***** happens, i think the turbo whine is louder then my exhaust lol

ANY filter is better than no filter!

The turbo will really whine when it gets out of balance from dirt erosion and takes out the bearings.

Holding in a little heat is far better than letting in a little dirt.

Why do you think EVERY ENGINE ON THE PLANET comes with an air filter on it?? Your engine and turbo are going to die a horrible death soon unless you get some sort of filter on it. All it will take is a little water or a pebble...and it will be all over.

just got it rebuilt for $1k CDN, it had 3 little chips on it when i took it in, he shaved off the outside edge, still 3 chips but not as deep, maby 3mm chips down from 5-6 mm but smaller blade so less psi top end, but a little faster spool, was a garrett, now like a kkk

so now u know that i dont care about the turbo maby i can take it back or something in under a year, he called it a upgrade

im sure new rings would be loved in mine, 1 day i plan on it, sooner better then later

i dont drive in bad weather or dusty roads, ack 1 or 2 dusty roads but thats all lol

So you spent $1000, only to destroy it in a short amount of time? Wow.

Your turbocharger is now effectively worthless after having reduced the diameter of the compressor wheel (if I understood that that is what happened). The gap between the blade tip and compressor/inlet housing is optimized for flow based on many factors such as temperature, pressure, compressibility, and so on. Even a millimeter change in diameter changes those figures exponentially. Several millimeters - forget it.

Imagine what the inside of a throttle plate housing on a gasser looks like after a while when running on a worn out filter. Now take that filter off of your Diesel and imagine that compressor wheel as the most powerful Hoover vacuum you can imagine under the hood of your car. Then just think about what the inside of the compressor housing and diffuser section (not to mention the wheel itself) will look like in short time - let alone, what makes it past the compressor and actually into the induction side of the engine. All that particulate matter, slam dunked onto the surfaces of every component that was never designed to function in such a contaminated atmosphere. And in the compressor section, all that crud is conveniently deposited within under astronomical force via extreme rpm of the compressor. Heck, just have a look inside a typical squirrel cage fan that vents say, a paint booth.

Well, you know, I ran mine without an air filter for a long time. I actually cut out a hood scoop for it, you know, kind of like a WRX. Then one day I drove it in the rain and I think I mighta screwed something up. I'm not sure what or how it happened though..

(Sarcasm.)

It's a 22 year old 300D, not an E63. Sure, the engine has a fair bit of torque but it's NOT a race car, nor should it be driven as such, especially not without a goddamn air filter. Come on, that's common sense..

So put the old one on there until you decide!

Oh and another thing.. I hate to say it but a late model TDI Jetta should be faster than a 300D.

Doesn't look like this guy was using an air filter either.....

Come on, get real. As has already been said, it's a 300D, the Stuttgart Taxi. If the air filter makes it any slower, you're not gonna notice it.

Leave the turbo noises to ricers and awesome TDI's
