How do you take the hard plastic off the back of the seat W124?
I'm getting a terrible creak on my driver's side seat. I found the problem and it's NOT coming because the seat and the hard plastic are hitting, but rather that the hard plastic part, where it curves under the seat back slightly, is being pushed back and the force is making it creak.
I tried to take the hard plastic panel off, found 2 screws, took them off, but still can't seem to get the panel off. I'm guessing it slides down or pulls out, but it won't do either. Any suggestions? Even aside from taking that part off, the real problem is the creaking. Is there any way to stop the creaking with that part off? Even with it off, is there anything I can do to get it to stop creaking? Thanks, Jeff 1991 300d, 115k Last edited by jbach36; 11-16-2007 at 12:19 AM. Reason: incomplete |

(rear) of front seat removal
If you've removed the two screws (downward) the back cover should pull down.
(according to the FSM) We are talking about the hard "plastico" cover that extends up to about 4 inches from the top of the seat back.[looks like it slides underneath the top four inch portion] 'Still hacking around for the interior tranny bushings instructions.I already know the FSM will be of no assist. It acts like the power is miraculously transmitted from the flywheel to the drive shaft. |

If you are talking about the seat back panel that the luggage net attaches to, the easiest way to remove that panel is to unhook the seat covering material that clips into the vertical channel on each side of the seat back frame. The seat covering (which makes up the SIDES of the seat BACK) has a clear nylon strip that is sewn in to the material (tex or leather). This strip of nylon then "hooks" into the channel. You only need to remove just one side and the back panel simply falls out. Zero damage is done to any of the seat components this way. Slightly compress the seat back at the edge to "unload" the nylon strip. Start at the bottom and work your way up. In theory, the panel will slide out. I just doubt it though. When you see that the vinyl or leather is folded over on itself (with the nylon strip rolled-up inside) it makes a very tight interface with the back panel. You'd have a heckuva time sliding that panel out. Follow the steps above and it's a breeze.
Worked for me. |

If you release the tension from the seat-side vinyl/leather, you can pull the vinyl/leather material rearward out of the slot.
There is a slot in the edge of the hard-back (I believe it is upholstered hard board), the edge of the vinyl material has a strip in it that fits into that slot with one fold of vinyl. A good time to replace the headrest clips if someone has broken those for you.

I'm in error. The channel (slot) IS indeed, in the back panel as Babymog indicates.
