hole in the fuel tank cover

I noticed this hole under the fuel tank just left of center. The bolt in the photo is the anchor for a trailer hitch. The blob is about the size on my thumbtip. This looks odd to me. Any ideas?

Should I do something about this? Maybe epoxy it back together?

The "shape" on the underside rear of the car is the spare-tire well, not the fuel tank. The fuel tank is up behind the rear seat back. That "flap" you see is a drain plug for the spare tire well, don't seal it shut.

Also, that pic of your axle....your axle boot is completely gone/shot!! !!

Red face

thanks! that answers that! Guess that makes sense - not very safe to hang the fuel out the back end like that, eh?

Ooops, I uploaded the wrong 2nd pic! That pic was a before shot of my axle. I replaced it last month thank to help from all of you guys!
