I actually MADE money on my deal. I found an SD that was about 2 1/2 hours away from me. I rented a U-haul trailer and towed it back. Took off everything I needed for my car, then sold parts off the car.

Junk 300SD : -$200
Trailer rental: -$50
Fuel: -$100

I got all my parts for free. Plus I sold

Interior : +$150
Wood trim: +$200
Wheels : + $200
Misc parts : +$150

Plus in the end I sold the car for what I bought it for.

Car : +$200

I MADE $550 in the end PLUS got all the parts I needed.

Look for a junk one in your area.

could not find a junk one, But found a guy parting one out. He has the manifolds and turbo for $200. I will have to try and make a exhaust pipe, and modify my air intake.

What do you think?
What should I torque the maifolds to when doing the assembly?

thanks
Doug

Don't forget the oil feed line to the top of the turbo. Doesn't he have the downpipe also?

I asked about the torque specs when I did mine. Nobody seemed to know so I just snugged them up.

I will ask about the oil line. He does not have the exhaust. He already parted out the car except the engine. but it is bad, so I am just taking what he has.

Will my oil line not work?

$200 is expensive. You can reuse your turbo.

I don't think you can reuse your turbo either. It has been a while but I remember trying to reuse my turbo. I remember trying to spin the housing to try to make everything line up and I had no luck. Of course I was pinched for time and I don't think I spent a whole lot of time screwing with it. I think someone else here said you can use the CA turbo.

$200 is a fair price if you get everything you need.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, but a turbocharged car with a loose intake manifold is going to have issues with boost. If it can blow out between the intake and head, well, it's not going where it should. I'd say that sealing up that leak will restore power. Possibly a lot. It will be interesting to see the improvement.

That is what I remember trying to do. I think another member here has done it with success. I think I gave up and just used the Fed turbo because it was easier. I think you can even swap the housings because the CA version EGR is a little different.

I figured that resealing it would improve it. But then decided while I was at it I would be best to just do it all at once and get rid of that trap, And if the turbos are interchangeable, then I guess I have a spare?

Have this together, need to fix a new air filter, and get the exhaust fixed.

How far do I dare drive this with no exhaust after the turbo, to get the exhaust work done?

thanks
Doug

If the exhaust is just blowing on the firewall, not more than a block or two. If it is just the downpipe, as long as you can stand the noise.

You can use your old CA down pipe if you cut it off at the flex pipe. Anything to get the exhaust out of the engine bay, blowing on the firewall is a big fire hazard.
