Sunroof is dead

Hi all, I went to open my sunroof today and when I went to close it , it just went dead. I had about 2 inches left to close. No motor sound and no problems before. I checked the fuse and it looked "broken" not blown, so I replaced it. Still nothing.. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Matt

well i dont know your problem but if you havent got it closed then in the trunk on the left side wall towards the back of the trunk there is a thing that you can screw to close the sunroof.

Yep, I got it closed, broke the plastic nut off, but I used a vise-grips and cranked it shut. Just wondering where to start looking for a problem when it doesn't seem to be the fuse. The motor doesn't run at all..... whmmmmm

Thanks, Matt

Are you sure you used the right fuse? My roof died a couple months ago, and I replaced the fuse with a 15A glass fuse (old one was 16A OE fuse). Blew that 15A like nobody's business. I put an MB 16A in there and it works like a charm and has held up since (knock on wood). So make sure you're using the right OE fuse before the next step, which I can't help with at the very moment.

Remove and clean the switch and reinstall. Be careful when taking the switch apart to fo it over a parts tray to avoid losing thew pivot balls.

I'll go out and recheck the fuse this AM. I'm sure it is the right one, but it WAS dark last night. I'll then check the switch. How does that come out? Seems to me I read some where that you take out the glove box and basically push it out, is that right?

Thanks for all the help, Matt

Matt;

I think you should be able to pry the switch out with a thin blade screwdriver. The switch has expansion tabs on the sides. Search the forum for the DIY for cleaning the switch.http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/diesel-discussion/157757-how-refurbish-mercedes-switches-post1208737.html

Taking out the glovebox is a 30 second job, though -- and it goes back in just as quickly.
