Highway driving is not good for a newly rebuilt engine. It needs varying speeds and loads to break in properly.

I agree, I was concerned about the $2500 engine.

Agreed.

You get what you pay for. At that price, I'm sure you don't get pistons, IP or any crankshaft work.

To properly rebuild one of these engines to factory specs costs more than $2500. in parts.

Additionally, the comparison doesn't seem equal. Doesn't the price from Metric include a complete long block with head and IP?

It's not even remotely possible to consider a new head with valves, prechambers, guides and seals and a new bottom end for $2500.

What would it cost to buy one of Ghurka's brand new turbo 616's from Tempo of India? Think it would be a bolt in option?

At least for 617 turbos, the dealer price is pretty close to metric's (within about $1000). It's probably worth a call.

That's a great question! I would love to replace my 616 (270,000 miles) with such a beast when the time comes (if it ever comes).

'Ghurka' is a reference to a member here with than name who has a G-Wagon with that engine (built by Tempo or Force Motors). He could probably tell us how to buy one of their engines.

Yep, for $2,500 you are probably getting new rings, gaskets, bearings, and everything cleaned up. Pretty much a super cheap ring job.

I'd love to know how to get one of those 616 engines, that sounds cool.

I guess I won't rebuild it, although once it makes it to 400k, it might be time for a new one :p we'll see.
