1982 240D Trunk won't open

My trunk won't open. The mechanism seems to engage when I press in the lock "button" but the trunk won't open. Any ideas or suggestions as to how to get this opened?

Thanks,

Kurt

the trunk lock is kinda finiky

I know with mine you have to put the key in and turn it a certain way to pop it open.

if you already know how to properly open a trunk and the mechanism is messed up there is a method

tools needed

1) 5' length of a 4x4 post
2) thick cardboard
3) a friend

what you do is put the cardboard or something else to protect the paint on the area to the right of the rear license plate on the W123

next.. you have your friend pulling up on the trunk while you knock the area to the right of the plate with the 4x4 post

The shock from the blows will open the trunk and your friend pulling up is also a big help in opening the trunk.

Surf n Turf showed me how to do that trick.

trunk lock

1. Go through your normal regimen with the key for unlocking (insert and turn
counter clockwise,remove key.) the trunk.
2. Start car normally, then manually lock the driver's door by pushing down on
the door lock on top of the door. Then manually pull up on the door lock on top
of the door to open the lock(s) [and if your trunk lock is not too messed up, it
will respond to the vacuum signal from the system rather than the actual lock
button mechanism on the trunk.]Good Luck!

Does the friend hold the piece of cardboard with one hand, pulls up on trunk with other hand, while the owner smacks the trunk with the 4 X 4? Does he remain a friend if you whack his hand by mistake?
Does this work because of actually deflecting the parts, or by jiggling them loose?

Thanks,

So, to clarify, you insert the key, turn it fully counter-clockwise, push in lock {with key still in it} and try to open trunk and it doesn't work that way?

the cardboard isn't really needed.. if the car is a parts car..

we did it sans cardboard or something to protect the paint since it was a parts car..
