Found these alternative headlights on ebay...opinions?
Take a look at these monsters, they certainly look fancy, but I wonder how good they actually are? They use H4 bulbs and fit in in place of the entire stock headlight unit. They'd obviously look best with clear corner markers as well, but wow....fancy looking.

Modern MB's with the HID lights have similar looking aparati' They're very "shiny" looking. I agree its a little on the pimped out side, but I am looking for a headlight upgrade that won't cause my wallet to burst into flames. Main goal: To be able to see road at night.

I was thinking about a set for my car, but after consulting with my friends decided against it. Mostly for two reasons:
I am sure they are junk. My friend got aftermarket tail lights for his E300D from a similer company, and they are leaky poor fitting trash. Look good though! So I am sure these will leak. Secondly the W126 is a pretty classic stately looking design, and these really are not in keeping with their character. You will have a bit of a clash. If your car was a pretty trick 560SEC you may possible be able to pull it off. Get a used set of Bosch euro's, you can get them for $200 or less. Then get an HID kit off ebay for them. You will have modern looks and better lighting.

I'd get these with HID kits and clear corners, for a very clean Euro look. Get rid of the headlight wipers or get some euro's. Since your car is a pre 85 getting the correct euro front bumper and headlight wipers should be cake.

Those are probably Depo's, Brian has them on his car they are OK.
If you want good headlights you have to get Bosch, either $600 for new or $200 for used. Clear corners are junk, but they are so cheap even if you have to change them every once in awhile its not a big deal. I think you can get a pair for like $30.

Yeah look at how cheap Depo clear corners can be had for:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/80-91-MERCEDEZ-BENZ-W126-S-CLASS-CLEAR-CORNER-LIGHTS-DP_W0QQitemZ300173698302QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item300173698302#ebayphotohosting Junk but who cars if they last a few years. Mine are probably 5-6 years old and still decent.

Those are just Euro lights, just splice the connectors in. If you want hight adjustment thats more work.

How much better is the light output? Thats the main thing I am looking for, not so much the "appearance" (for now)....limited funds. I just want to be able to see the road. More work is no issue for the height adjustment. I like doing work on these cars. Spent 4.5 hours yesterday re-vamping the glow system on our 300D, and giving it new horns.

Brians were much better than my DOT's when we had them side by side. They threw a much more clear even beam. These lights are never going to be as good as the bi Xenon, super aircraft landing lights they put on the new ones, but its an improvement.

Yeah I don't expect the xenon output, but I just want them to light up the road better. Right now I have two phillips cool-blue (very white light) sealed beams, about a year old, and they just don't put much light on the road. Two "strips" of light I call it.
