Picture This

Hello Gentlemen,
These pictures are off of the right side of my 300 D 1984. The adapter and silver wire connects to this circular shaped box. I have no idea what this connector/wire box and the circular shaped cap are(I can only guess it has something to do with the cruise control). Can someone with knowledge of these cars please fill me in here on what each of these 3 parts are. I have a link to the pics here. Thanks a bunch guys.

That is the "diagnostics tool socket" its used to measure engine RPMS on the older models but from 84 onward a different solution was used. So yours is just the plug with a cap over it.

Does anyone know what the cable running from it is supposed to hook up too?

On the older models the gray cord is for the tach sensor on the harmonic balancer area. The circular device on yours has nothing, but on the older models it has the tach sender.
