I would like to change my dash cluster lights to LED's. How do I cross over to make sure that I am getting the correct kind that will fit into the incandescent sockets in the dash?

In other words, what is the connector type for the dash lights? Twist in, press in, etc.?

Right now, I only plan on changing the dash lights so I can see the dash at night. Thanks.

The turn signal lights and reserve fuel light are the only ones that will benefit from LED. The cluster lighting will be worse than stock with LED lights. I've tried it and the two I recommended are the only ones I left in. I changed the lighting to 3W white light bulbs.

The lights press into holders which twist into the cluster.

I need to do this change. One of mine burned out.

Is it hard to get to the cluster to get the light bulbs changed?

Also, where would I find the bulbs (autozone???)

I am going to do a search, on painting the bulb surround white I think it is to get a better deflection of light...

go to autozone and look for a shiny paint that will reflect even better. its not hard to remove the console at all, you can do it two ways, one way is to take off the kickpanel below and push it out, and the other way is to make a hook kind of contraption and pull it out. its simply held in there by friction no bolts no screws. oh and Allways use a backing wrench on the oilpressure gauge, if you dont it will break it.

1981 240d (engine donor 1983 240d) recently rebuilt engine hurray! - No more.. fought a tree and the tree won.

pearl black 1983 240d 4speed (Converted!@$$%) atleast the tranny was rebuilt.

I purchased my LEDs from LEDlight.com and am very happy with the result. They fit with no modification and are MUCH brighter. They have 4 side firing and 1 front firing LED. These are the brightest LEDs I've tried. Here's a direct link:LED dash bulbs

I think he is referring to using a wrench to hold the nut that is attached to the dash, then loosen the oil line fitting to remove.
