300td Door limit strap and attachment
The bracket/mechanism that the door limit strap attaches to, at the door, is busted. You can see that it is visably loose.
I imagine that I'll need to pop off interior door cover to get at the thing. Any one have any experience replacing or fixing one of these things? I'll be looking for parts today... let me know. |
Take off the door panel, remove the two 10mm bolts, remove the c-clip on the pin , remove the pin, slide out the broken check strap assembly and reverse to install.
Easy 10 minute job. It takes marginally longer on the 240D because we have to remove the window crank handle, so add a flatblade screwdriver to the tool list if you have manual windows. |

It is called the "door check"

Anyone have a solution for a popped strap mount on the frame? Someone had attempted to weld it but the weld has broken. Makes an annoying pop pop sound.

I put a plate behind the frame after tracing out a template for the strap hole, JB welded it to the inside (to hold in place) then used aircraft blind rivets with a pneumatic rivet gun to secure - so far so good.

This is how I fixed it - hope it helps |
Ah cool so there is a whole plate behind. Self tapping sheet metal screws should do the trick right?
