Someone posted on another thread that there was a steel strike in Germany in 79 and MB was using a different steel for the 116's during that period that accounts for the rust issues. Mine has no rust.

Yeah, that's definitely a contributing factor. On the other hand, a Dodge Dart body isn't exactly easy to keep from turning to dust, which is why I mentioned it. I've pulled a few bits off of W116 cars in the salvage yards around here now, and only one had serious rust, but it also had Mizzou stickers on the windows... Having grown up in that part of Missouri, I completely understood why it had rust if it spent any time there. Everything falls apart in the Midwest.

As for the 300SD on Craigslist... I'm tempted to check it out as well... So tempted. I don't need another project, though. I'm only buying cars that need tune-ups for a while. I must resist this urge!

Do they have clinics for Merc addicts?
