It's a one-tank "conversion." NO! Who cares if it's German?????

Save your engine. Buy a good two-tank setup or run BioD.

GP heater? No way...!

OK, to me that just looks like a very nice glow plug heater. Not that hard to make yourself, but here's the thing: As you know glow plugs are designed to get VERY hot. Much hotter than you need for veg oil. I used to have a glow plug heater. One day, I parked my Beetle Greasecar and went into home depot for about 20 minutes. Coming back to my car, I was shocked to see smoke coming out from under my hood.

What was it? Somehow either the relay froze "on" or the thermostat failed. The GP heater which was, "professionally installed" was on its way to creating a disaster under the hood. So I'm glad I was only away for 20 min's. Needless to say, I avoid those GP heaters.

I'm not a one-tanker, but I can say my flat plate heat exchanger does a MUCH better job of heating than the glow plug, and because it is passive, it is simpler, much less prone to failure and, "look ma, no wires!" If you want a one tank set up, look for the Elsbett kit, which has a long track record of success, but it ain't cheap! More info: http://ctbiodzl.freeshell.org/votdi.html

Good luck!
-Chuck

I'm not going to trust that one. If you are in a warm climate, and really want a one tank system, I have heard of many people just getting injector line heaters. Much less expensive than that ebay add. I personally like my two tank kit.

Yeah, if you get a two tank system and an auxiliary method of heating -- like an extra $100 for a flat plate heat exchanger, you can use WVO fine. Couple of tips: 1) It isn't worth it for short commutes as it takes at least 4 or 5 miles to warm up in the winter and 2) If you can block your grill a bit that helps; 3) Insulate lines as much as possible.

All in all I've spent about $1100 on my kit if you include parts/labor & installation/insulation. However mine was a used batch of Greasecar components listed on eBay, because I'm cheap.

There are good one-tank systems, but it doesn't appear that this one on ebay is one of them.

The best systems include:
- flat plate heat exchanger
- extra inline fuel pump (approx. 6-9 psi)
- injector line heaters
- (if you're really ambitious OR live in a really cold climate) a tank heater of some kind.

Also, if you're going to run SVO/WVO in a one-tank system, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS run it with a minimum of 10% regular diesel in the tank (this prevents polymerization).
