150 really? I was under the impression that all US non AMG MB's have the 135 limiter on them.

I know the new S600's do, even have H rated rubber.

2005 must have been different?

Maybe, I know it really PO's neighbor who has the fuggly charger with the wing and black graphics on a gold color. Looks like something a 19-23 year old kid would drive an this guy is in late forties. He said his Charger Hemi shuts off at 125mph and has H rated tires. The new US MB's may be limited to 125 as well, but I know I was told the I-6 3L US MB were limited to 150 mph. I don't know about the gassers or new Bluetec diesels, haven't driven one or asked anyone who would know.

Not a filling up story, but a learning to drive stick.

I was 10. My dad took me out to my grandmas ranch. WE were out in the pasture and he said he wanted to walk back and that i should try and drive the jeep (1980 CJ5 with a 350 chevy and side pipes). My mom had taught me about shifting in her hot pink VW super beetle, she would push the clutch i would shift so i thought i had it down.
So i climb in start it up. Rev it up nice and loud let off the clutch and I poop you not popped a wheelie for about fifteen feet, came down with a big bounce i jump out crying my eyes out and my dad comes running up and he cant stop laughing. Had me get back in the drivers seat and taught be all about finessing the clutch. Man i miss that jeep

I was filling up Saturday after road trip with wife & grandson for a day of shopping and as I was pulling away from the pump, a nice looking W123 pulled into the diesel pump behind us. The car was being driven by a kid of 16 to 18 range, his passenger was older man who looked to be in his late 70's to mid 80's, I honked and we exchanged waves as the kid went to diesel pump and old man went to the card reader and we drove off home.

My wife said a little later as were getting back on highway headed home that it was probably grandfather and grandson and that grandpa was probably grooming the kid to take over the old MB from him. At that moment I looked at my grandson in back seat and thought about that possibility with us and I got a little misty eyed.

By the time I'm talking about grandchildren, the Benz will probably fit into a bucket as rust flakes, the last remains.

The last time I said anything to a MB diesel owner was like the last week I had my SDL out last year. I was filling it up before brokers tour and a very ratty and dirty 300SD pulled up on the other side of the pump. But it was the same color combo as mine! I said nice car he gave me a dirty look like I was making fun of him. Maybe he stole it he looked homeless. People arn't friendly up here.

Buc-ee's rocks! I dont know if they only have them in TX or what, but it seems like they put a new one up every week but only in rural areas, not in the city. The best one is on I-10 about 40 mile east of San Antonio or so, i cant remember the name of the town. Everyone should be sure to stop there if youre in the area.

Here's the thinking: diesel engines have high compression and heavy flywheels. Cranking them from a dead stop is a hard task to perform.

NOTWITHSTANDING the fact that our engines are relatively easy to start and have strong, sturdy starters... I still just feel like since diesels burn so little fuel at an idle, that I am saving fractions of pennies by exchanging fuel for NOT running the starter one more time.

I figure that even if it's not a fixed number, there is a finite number of starts my starter will give. I figure that whether it's one million or one million and two... it will still crank a last time at some point. So I figure that every chance I have to economically let it idle rather than shut it off and restart it, I'm adding one more start to the other end of its life.

Saving money? probably not. Feeling good? You bet.
I leave mine running too. I figured if it takes about 50 minutes to run thru 2 cans of Purge at idle, 5 minutes idling at fill up isn't really gonna burn much at all.

I've had a few people ask what kind of mileage I get, thinking it's not worth the $60 fill up. Once I say 500 miles +/- with mixed driving, eye brows raise and "WOW" comes out of their mouthes. I did have a cabbie offer to buy it on Friday tho..

It's amazing how many people have such poor math skills. I always have to tell them 700 to 750 miles on a tank to get them to understand the difference. Even then some can't put it together and just look at you like you're an idiot.

Just like a friend who says he fills up at about 350 miles on trips which is when he is get to 1/4 tank mark, but says he gets 32 mpg somehow. His car has a 19 gal tank (Avalon) and I guess makes gasoline, best it could be doing is about 26 mpg on the road. He tells mme he has a 16 gallon tank and that I have a really large tank, I have yet to get him to understand I have a 2 gallon larger tank is all.

Plus I can blow his doors off.

The Camry with the I-4 will get 32-33. The V6 can't get that high. 27-29 is more realistic.

The town is Luling.

We stop at Buc-ees every time we head out to Houston! The jery there ROCKS!!!

But we fill up at the Flying J - cheaper diesel.

Also at an Exxon just south of San Marcos when we visit my parents there - they are consistently selling diesel for 10-15 cents less per gal.

Every time we stop there, it seems like the other auto diesel pump has a middle aged lady filling up her VW.

Plus, my 16 month old son LOVES trucks, so that keeps him occupied while we are stopped for fuel - always plenty of them there for him to look at.

Still waiting for my run in with the attendant that 'saves" me from filling up with diesel.

In addition to being laid back like H-townbenzoboy said, people in Texas love diesel (mostly pickup trucks).

Hey, it ain't a little Camry, it an Avalon!!! I think the Avalon weights about 3500 lbs so it should be a 16/17 mpg city and 26/27 mpg highway at best with a 70 mph cruising speed. If a 3500+ gasser would get 32 mpg at 70mph I might buy a gasser, no just kidding.
