Need a bit of help here - the whole grading convention of these oils is confusing to say the least -
The oil that I specified was Dexron III to replace the spec in the manual which was Duckhams ATF Auto Trans III, I thought the Trans III may refer to the same Dexron III - Anyway, went to collect a ton of parts inc the ATF, this was labelled ATF Havoline IID - agggghhh what does that mean, the chap on the counter said this had replaced the III standard but I had a feeling he would say anything, is this correct? I think Havoline might be caltex - this is what they say about IID http://www.caltex.com.au/products_oil_detail.asp?id=4 RECOMMENDED FOR Passenger Car Automatic Transmissions: Autotrans Fluid IID is recommended where the Mercedes-Benz Sheet 236.7 and General Motors DexronŽ -IID specification fluids are required, and in many Ford automatic transmissions. These recommendations cover many passenger car automatic transmissions. It is not recommended for automatic transmissions requiring DexronŽ -III* or IIE* fluids, Ford 85LE** and 95LE** electronic transmissions or Mitsubishi+ "damper clutch" type automatic transmissions. Truck and Commercial Vehicle Automatic Transmissions: Autotrans Fluid IID is recommended for Allison (Type C4), General Motors (DexronŽ -IID), Ford,New Process, Warner, Mercedes-Benz, Voith and ZF automatic transmissions. Earth Moving, Construction, Agricultural and Mining Equipment: Autotrans Fluid IID is recommended where Allison Type C4 (SAE 10W) and Caterpillar TO-2 (powershift) fluids are called for. Have left it there to be collected tomorrow if needed. Thanks, David |

All done
Changed box filter, gasket and fluid inc TF - btw, about 3 litres of ATF came out of there. At a rough guess I would say 6.5 litres in total - shifts like silk now although i did overfill it quite a bit which I have now drained off, v difficult to read the stick sometimes. I would recommend this ATF for this type of transmission, its a lot higher visc than the stuff that came out and you can notice the difference. Thanks forthe help, David |
