96 E300 Red and Green Lights Flashing

I did a search but did not really find what Iwas looking for. ON the 96 E300 the Red and Green lights on the rear view mirror flash off and on together after I lock of unlock the doors. I also have a CEL on but have not had the chance to run the code so the two may be related. Anyway anyone have ideas about this? the car locks and unlocks fine and the car starts and runs fine so I am confused. Any help is as always appreciated

Try replacing the batteries in your remote.

IN my search I found where the red and green lights were alternating the flashing but mine are flashing off and on ant the same time and rate. I will change the battery anyway thanks for the reply.

Alternating lamps is the DAS giving negative authorization. The engine code is not likely related at all; you should get that scanned.

Thanks Matt I plan to scan it today if I get time. I changed the batteries so I will see how this affects it.

Matt L is right: The service manual says the red and green lights flashing simultaneously means the batteries in the remote control unit should be changed. It includes this note: "The battery change should not take longer than approx. 1 minute, otherwise it is necessary to resynchronize the remote control signal." To resynchronize, point the remote control at the rear view mirror and press the button momemtarily twice, then switch on the ignition within 30 seconds.
