Window 300CD question,

I am bummed.

I have always seen pictures of what I thought are pillarless 300CDs with the wide open look of all 4 windows rolled all the way down..........(into the frame.)

So today I picked up my 82 300CD from the indie I had replace my rear pass motor on, and he tells me the rear windows of the CDs were not designed to go all the way down.

Only 3/4 or so. To me this is a great dissappointment. Is he right, or is there some kind of German kids safety lock switch I don't know of stashed somewhere?????

.....

bump

he's not right

Mine go down all the way into the body (well the one that works)

One side is broken, but the other travels down all the way into the frame, and disappears from sight.

SO why do mine only go down partially like 75%.....?

Were there 2 types ???

Only one type - I've had a '79 and an '84 and they all go all the way down - the Indie is BS'ing you. While pushing the switch, give the window some gentle help and see if goes further down - once in awhile I need to do that with one of mine - then I need to open it up and regrease the guide.

Both of mine go all the way down (and back up) by themselves. I think it's time to tell your mech :bsflag:

They're meant to go all the way down.

I'd guess it would be a problem with the window regulator, or a sticky guide.

better start going to my indie

wrong part?

did they install a new motor, and maybe use the wrong parts....like a sedan regulator, or guide?

Does a four door or wagon only go down half way, anybody?????

Dee8go 11-30-2007 04:38 PM

What does the regulator do, exactly? Does it regulate the high and low extents of the window's movement? That's what it sounds like. My rear windows will sometimes slip down a little bit by themselves. I was told this may be due to a worn out regulator.

Nope. My wagon goes all the way down

If your window slips, it's probably due to worn out teeth on the regulator. The rear window (the one that works) on my CD retracts fully.

My 1980 wagon's wagon rear windows went halfway. My newer ones go all the way.

Thanks for the "good" news. Now I know I have another project to look forward to.

What I had prior to the work was a drivers side rear that went 75% down. It is still "as is" .
& a rear Pass that did nothing.

My old indie told me I needed a new pass side motor & regulator & a drivers side regulator..........

So I bought what I thought to be these parts described from a guy on the Parts forum , "Eurotech35". This was controversial if I would ever get them from Kristian N. & brought the parts to a new indie ........ironically called EurotechIII, in Boca. He only did the left side and told me I had the wrong size regulators, and he only put in the passenger side motor and cleaned my switches.......

So it is possible I have incorrect regulators & motors from maybe a 560...??.

Both rears now go down 75% ish, and I guess I have to open up both sides and compare what is in the left to what is in the right side.

TBC...........

CD Window Fun

You need to take it all apart and look in there , the 1/4 windows are always a PIA .

I just leave the damned things closed .

you must clean off ALL the old , rock hard grease , most " mechanics " are too lazy and just smear new grease on top of the old grease , this never works out .

There's a little plastic football shaped thing in there that wears or disintegrates , IIRC the dealer gets $40.00 + each for them , maybe Rusty @ *************** can save you some $ there .

I wonder if your ' mechanic ' really cleaned the switches well , or just sprayed some Electro-Contact cleaner in and called it a day ~ they're easy to clean and usually full of crap , esp. if you or the DPO was a smoker . if you break one cleaning it , not to worry , get another one from the junkyard or new ones are not terribly expensive .

I love my NA Diesel Coupe
