Is the Bosch 80006 Glowplug After-glow rated?

Hello all,

I'm going to replace my glowplug relay on my 1987 300D Turbo with one with afterglow.

I have six brand new Bosch 80006 glowplugs on the shelf. Are these OK to use with an afterglow relay?

Thanks,
The Tenor Man

I am also confused if the stock or relay on my 84 300D has a “afterglow feature” or if it is a description one part of the function of the relay and I have not taken the time to find out yet.
I would ask whoever you are buying the glow plug relay from what are the correct Bosch glow plugs to use with the relay. My car uses the same 80006 plugs and when I look at the different parts company they never offer more than one type of Bosch glow plug. Meaning they don’t list a different special Bosch plug for “afterglow”.
Beyond all of the above have done your troubleshooting and know that your origional glow plug relay is no good?

There is no such thing as "after-glow rated" glowplugs.

Aren`t the 80006 Bosch glow plugs the Duraterm plugs that are used
with the afterglow relays?
My understanding was that if you didn`t use the Duraterm plugs with
the after glow relay, it would eventually burn them out.

No. All the glowplugs will work perfectly fine with afterglow.

Maybe it is an E-bay selling point, maybe that`s where I read it.

Thank You for the info.

Me too....my current set is almost 1.5 years old, and so far so good. And I start my car 4-6 times a day usually....so it gets a lot of glow time. Especially now, since it is TWELVE degrees outside!
