Speedometer cable pic

So I'm under my car today looking for the clutch slave cylinder when I see this...

I'm guessing this is the speedometer cable right? This would explain why both the speedometer and odometer have stopped working.

Uhm, yes!

You can see where it has been whacking the bottom of your car. That portion left is still spinning if the tip hasn't finally broken off from the spring on the tranny end.

Actually it looks like the scratches are from whatever sheared the cable. If it were from a spinning or whipping cable, the scratches would be transverse to the cable.

Can you describe this picture to me? If this is the center tunnel then I assume that thing in the front of the picture is the flexdisc. This is very odd as every manual I have seen has the accel cable on the drivers (left) side. Not only that but it has a clamping bolt on the tranny to secure it. Even more bizzar is that this cable appears to be pointing to the rear of the car? And what extactly is that thing behind the cable?

Accelerator cable? This is the speedometer cable were looking at. The picture is taken from just behind the tranny looking towards the front of the car. The right side of the tranny/center tunnel has the scratches on it. The cable is pointing towards the rear of the car. I noticed that there are two different size speedometer cables for this car, one's about four inches longer than the other. I don't think this is the original cable so they might have put the wrong one in at some time. Because it would be a very sharp turn for the two pieces to join up which might have contributed to it snapping.

Not sure what you mean by the thing behind the cable. At the extreme left side of the picture is the flex disc. The cable is resting between the center tunnel and the cross brace that holds the tranny mount.

that black thing behind the cable pointing up is probably the cable sheath.
when the two came apart, that`s the way they ended up.

the scratch marks is from the cable flopping around from being spun
by the transmission

Correct. The black thing pointing up is indeed the cable sheath.
