Is there a check engine light when it does that?

Have you done any modifications to the engine (Performance ship, vegetable oil, oiled air filter. etc)?

What have the mechanics done so far?

no mods done also no check light comes on,when they looked at it the told me that the line from the aif flow meter to the turbo was taking in air so they replaced it ,but it is still the same, thanks

I don't drive 2001 so I don't know how much this will help you but we were having the same trouble with our 300sd, I don't think I could climb a hill without almost dying so here is what we did...

1. cleaned the banjo fitting and hose
2. replaced the thermostat (they run like crap if too hot or too cold)
3. replaced the air filter
4. replaced the fuel filter that looks like an oil filter (the other one was fine)

I am not sure which one did it, but now there isn't a hill I can't climb!

No power above 3k RPM sounds like a faulty or sporadic MAF; especially if this is a turbo engine. With some faults there is no CEL. Assume the mech has checked simple things like fuel filters and that there is not air in the fuel lines already.

Thumbs up

well i will start with that info and see what happens , alot seems to be pointing to fuel and air filters and air in the fuel line which had to be replaced just before this happened, thanks for all the help.

If you have fuel or air leaks always fix those first.
