SDL climate control question

The person sitting behind me and I have cold feet, my other passengers don't. Are there two flaps that control the airflow to the foot well seperately (left and right)? That would be weird since you can't adjust them seperately like in newer models. There is no air coming out of the drivers side foot wells (front and rear), all other vents work as they should.

Join the club.

Both the '86 SDL and the SD have no driver's footwell heat.

Both footwells are controlled by the same pod, so, the problem must be the connection of the left footwell to the bellcrank.

I just haven't bothered to tear into that area.

If you do it, please post the details.

what a pain in the a$$...

I guess this is not worth the effort fixing it. The problem is a broken connection between the lever that controls both footwell flaps and the flap on the drivers side which now is in default position (closed). The mechanism works fine, no damage visible, but the flap is somehow not connected to the lever anymore. The problem is inside the plastic housing which distributes the air, and to remove the housing the center console and probably the dash have to come out first. I decided to temporarily fix it and used some 'electricians play-doh' to permanently hold keep the flap open. Here are some pics (after I removed the under dash cover) for the temporary fix:

Remove the end piece of the footwell duct.

Remove two bolts on the left side (underneath end piece) that hold the duct.

Loosen, but don't remove bolt above duct left of the steering column (hard to see)

Remove duct for dash vent left (probably not necessary, but gives you more room later when you put it back together). This part is easy to take out since it's not screwed or clamped to anything.

Remove plastic pin from connector and take out metal duct and connector at once. (some jiggling may be necessary)

You have now access to the flap, unfortunately all you can do from here is fix it in 'open' position.

This is the vacuum element and the mechanism that operates the footwell flaps on both sides. (Picture taken with CCU taken out).

At least no more cold feet...
