Aklim;

We've been driving the car for about a year with the bad mounts. I'll dig out the paperwork on the quote. I'm sure it was just the labor though

The ford dealer's mechanic is very good and I think he may like doing something different once in a while. At this point I shouldn't state any names until I talk to the ford dealership. They might not want to become a MB repair shop overnight. Don't forget that I simply asked them to make the two repairs and nothing else.

The "clutch pulley" to be exact. Apparently the alternator engages like an a/c compressor. You could actually hear it try to engage The engine would drop in RPM's and there was a loud "clack" associated with it. When the mechanic replaced the regulator I still had no charging from the alternator. The mechanic said the belt tensioner would move 1/4" when the "clack" happened. He removed the alternator and I had my wife take it to a local alternator and starter rebuild shop. They fixed it for 85 bucks. Unfortunately I never got to see the alternator. My wife said that they knew it was bad becouse it should have only turn in one direction and it was turning both ways (by hand I suppose).

$1200 labor for 2 mounts and an alternator bracket then? Wow. They should be reported for rape. Does that include the KY and condom too or do you bring your own???

Actually it was just to replace the motor and trans mount. The alternator hadn't failed yet. I just can't find any paperwork on it. (I did find a radio code card??) I'm supposed to be doing lights right now. I'll look again this evening.

Dealer mechanics are all paid the same = flat rate.
The average today is $13.00 - $25.00 per book hour, with few exceptions.

Exceptions:
* Rolls-Royce
* Rolls_Royce
* Bentley
* Ferrari
* Maserati
* Bugatti
* Maybach
etc, etc, etc.

Have a great day.

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE FAWKING ME!!! How is he doing it? Via the exhaust pipe? Gilly and I did the motor mounts, just not the trans and it didn't take that long. Even at $100 an hour, $12 hrs to do motor and trans mounts?? What is he doing also? Letting you mount him? Please let us know for sure and the name of that shop so we can avoid it. They should be doing it via book time and not some number they pull out of their head.

It's possible I'm mistaken. Parts AND labor would probably be 1200 bucks... I'm still looking for the friggin paperwork.

Like I said, let us know. For $1200, he'd better be doing more than simply installing the trans mounts. Hell, I'd fly there and do it for you for that price and still be ahead of the game.
