I would assume so, you can probably break it off by pulling on it. Looks flimsy. I didn't see the word "Supercharged" on it, I assumed thats what SS meant, guess not. Maybe his wasn't....didn't help him any. I could hear him reving it up in the initial take off, but it seemed to only be enough to keep along side me, come shift-time, he lost horribly.

What I need is a finish-modified diesel....

Agreed. You'll have to kill the joy of the OP though, but I agree.

It wasn't really a "race" perse, but either way, I agree. I was 17...people change. If I was that concerned about speed and racing, I doubt I'd be driving a non turbo 300D.

How many cars can you street race without actually exceeding any speed limits? However, it can be embarrassing to be passed by a '65 VW bug while you're in the middle of a drag race.

Its pretty much cosmetic. Most young people like the huge wings. My buddy and I don't, hence we shaved it off. The coupe looks much sleeker without it.

I only got up to 40-45mph in this "race" it was mainly a "who can take off from this light quicker" race......and that was me.

I'd never risk my car doing something stupid, so no worries there. This was a straight line from a traffic light.

Heres a good one.

When I was 16 (a year ago) I had my blue 1984 tubro diesel benz with 290 k on it, my friend has a 1980 gasoline 240dl with 200k. The dl has 120hp, less curb weight and it is a manual transmission. We drag raced, and we thought he was going to win. Right off the line the diesel smashed him, we only drove up to 50mph (speed limit) but by then i was many car lengths ahead. He was pissed.

Well I beat a Hybrid the other week yet I don't think he knew we were racing.
My "sleeper" car was a Lotus Cortina back in 77. Second gear look out I'm coming by. We pulled the motor and put in a Cosworth 1600 with dual side draft 45's.
I drove the old 300cd the other day and had forgotten how much quicker than the sld she is.
It is OK to street race up to the speed limit.

They do give tickets for "excessive display of acceleration". Ask my buddy with a 400hp to the wheels, 4mpg '71 Monty Carlo.

I know what typical street racing is like. I own a Honda, I've been revved at a billion times. You can still kill someone at 40-45.

We used to race on an empty road in the middle of no where. Off Bic drive its all commercial and on a sat night not a soul is around. That way if you crash you will just F yourself up. One of the idiots back in HS managed to rolled his Mustang.

... Cobalt SS's come in 2 levels. SS1pkg (coupes and sedans) the crapotec (ecotec-non supercharged) <<< biggest seller
and SS2pkg<<< supercharged. not thrilling cars. basically the same as my supercharged sunfire conv, but with horrible interiors, traction control, a really horrible clutch, and a known to break transmission.
