I say ditto, but I do not intend any flaming. I have just seen sooooooooo many problems with all years of the diesels used in Ford pickups. I can understand that they are probably cheaper to a Chevy or Dodge of the same year.

I just picked up a 2000 Excursion with 7.3L Powerstroke diesel this past weekend. You think diesel is expensive? Try filling an empty 44 gallon tank-ouch.

The IDI 6.9 and 7.3 Fords were going to be my pick if the Mercedes idea wasn't passed by the folks... My two choices for a first car in order were a Benz diesel and a Ford pickup of this era.

Nothing sounds quite like one of those things starting up - and IF you take care of 'em they're pretty reliable.

2000 7.3 is a TDI. Gonna have to get used to that 3500 rpm redline. Truck came from Phoenix via L.A. . Driver got 20-22mpg for the trip. Looking forward to camping season this year (I pull a small house). Towing with my '93 K2500 Sub was painfull (5.5-7.5mpg). Plus, the Sub just wasn't reliable anymore.

As far as I have found the International 6.9's only real weak spot is the injection pump, which goes every 100K or so and costs $350. It's not really fast with no turbo, but it's faster than a 240D, and turbo kits are available. The engine even has oil squirters for each piston from the factory. It also has 3 things I wish my Mercedes had: Adjustable intermittent wipers, visible dash lights and A NON-CRACKED BLUE DASHBOARD!

Congrats on your new MB getter. we need to save as many as we can,
P N P is crushing them as fast as they can.

My bro in law had a new ford van 6.9 he used in his air cond. business.
ran it to over 150000 mi. and was good to him.
good thing you didn`t buy a 95 power Stroke. that was a first year for
that engine.
He bought a new 350, 5 speed gear box, and had a large body on it for
his air cond. work.
every 50,000 mi the 2 piece fly wheel would start to come apart, he
had his share of problems with the fuel injectors. stupid idea of having
them under the valve cover, every time they had to be worked on, it
was an oil change.

It seem like second gear in the gear box was a problem, and had the
transmission in and out several times.
FixOor Repair Daily must be something to it.

Could you up grade your 240 to the adjustable wipers?

I guess when you get a truck it will have a Cummins in it. Good choice.

I sold it. I couldn't justify having two nearly identical cars, and wanted something I could haul with.

Found On Road Dead
Fuc*&er Only Runs Downhill
Fix Or Repair Daily
'95 Exploder that had more problems than in a parody of a country and western song. The list in 2 year period was unreal. Towed 9 times. From new tranny's to multiple brake jobs - calipers and everything 4 times in 12000 miles - to it's last feat: head gasket on my last run from the storage locker before I ran away from home to Asia for 18 months. I left it on the roadside and gave my neighbor the key. He spent 60 hours and 600 bucks on it in a military auto bay and couldn't get 1k for it when he was done - blowing white smoke in huge clouds. He sold it to a Mexican national for 500 bucks who thought he could fix it and sell it in Mexico for good money. Good luck. I'll never buy a Ford anything for any reason for the rest of my life.
