Bought fuel injectors off FleaBay
I have a 84 300SD and needed injectors. Found some on fleabay the seller said they came from a 617.951 which is my engine. The numbers on them are
KCA30535/4 115 bar. My FSM indicates that mine should be at 135 bar or at a minimum 120 bar. I have a bad feeling these are from a non turbo engine. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? |
115 bar on them would suggest they are OM616 and OM617 N/A injectors, but the housings are identical to the turbocharged models. It's possible someone picked up a freshened set of injectors for it at some time, and the pop pressure is correct for your motor, but they're simply in non-turbo housings, which would hurt nothing.
Worse case scenario, you can just have the pop pressure increased. |

Thanks for the reply. I have pop tested them at 115 Bar. I guess I'll have to get them adjusted for 135 Bar. I can do it if only I could find the shims.

Ooh, what a pain.
Somewhere on here I saw reference to an online source for the shims. Also, I noticed that almost all of the range of shim thicknesses that used to be available from MB still show up as valid parts in the EPC, despite some people on the forum suggesting in the past that they're no longer available. I called my local dealer with one of the numbers on a whim some time ago, and it came up as a valid part. I suspect that every one of the numbers listed is likely still a part you can order. The down side is that the number I ran by them was only stocked in Germany and it goes without saying that the part was subsequently grossly overpriced. Anyway, measure the shims in there already, do a little math, and you'll know exactly what size, or sizes you'll need. Because I feel like contributing as much as I can today for some odd reason, and due to the fact that someone might find the information useful one day, I'll supply the current information regarding the part numbers I could find for shims specific to the KCA injector. 0000173652 - 1.00 MM 0000173752 - 1.05 MM 0000173852 - 1.10 MM 0000173952 - 1.15 MM 0000174052 - 1.20 MM 0000174152 - 1.25 MM 0000174252 - 1.30 MM 0000174352 - 1.35 MM 0030178452 - 1.40 MM 0000174552 - 1.45 MM 0000174652 - 1.50 MM 0000174752 - 1.55 MM 0000174852 - 1.60 MM 0000174952 - 1.65 MM 0000175052 - 1.70 MM 0000175152 - 1.75 MM 0000175252 - 1.80 MM 0000175352 - 1.85 MM 0000175452 - 1.90 MM 0000175552 - 1.95 MM |
AS Kadams stated, there's nothing wrong with the shells marked 115 bar, but are the nozzles correct for the turbo engine? The turbo engine nozzle pintle is cross-drilled at the end. I don't recognize that nozzle part #.

That's a good point about the cross-drilling, and the introduction of that nozzle design does seem to correspond with the introduction of the turbo motors. Something to remember is that some time after the cross-drilled version came out, it superseded the N/A injector design.
Dare I say this? yes, the Bosch cross reference data I have states that they both use the same replacement nozzle these days. When the turbo versions came out with their new nozzle, the N/A motors began using the same nozzle after the existing nozzle stock was depleted. The nozzles in your injectors may be the previous design without the cross-drilled hole, since these are apparently used injectors that may pre-date the added hole, and I would be concerned about attempting to use them in a turbo motor, simply because I have no data to support that they would work properly. It's possible that it doesn't matter at all, but I won't make that claim. Since they have to come apart to adjust pop pressure, anyway, I guess you'll be finding out soon enough what the nozzle part really is. I wouldn't be too worried, yet. *Edit: I should note that my Bosch booklet is a bit dated. It was published in the early 90's. Still, they list the engines as using the exact same replacement parts, and I haven't seen any evidence to support that this isn't still the case. |

Thanks Everyone
Thanks for the information. I am going to keep the shim part numbers for future reference. On closer inspection where you can see the pintle tip the nozzle is distorted. I was able to contact TomJ the injector guru and have sent them off to be rebuilt. Thanks everyone.

I never got the dealer to say they had shims.
