Cruise control failure related to tranny probs? ('96 E300D)

The place that overhauled the transmission on our '96 E300D (W210 car) created a problem: the engine will start in any gear and the reverse lights are on all the time (I pulled the bulbs). My mechanic inspected underneath and told me this morning that the problem is probably a bad neutral safety switch -- the external wiring is OK so the part itself may be bad. The transmission place will make this good (next Monday).

Now my wife tells me that the cruise control is intermittent -- sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I confirmed the "doesn't" part this afternoon. Could this be related to the transmission problem? (My scanner shows no codes.) I know how the cruise control is wired in the W123 cars but not the W210s. Having had to fix (resolder the amplifier board) both my 123 and 124 cars, I suspect that this problem may just be a coincidence. I'd like to hear from someone who knows how the factory wired the 210's cruise circuitry.

Jeremy
