Geeze dude give it a rest.
I'd drive that fast except I can't steer mine worth a crap (worn suspension) and I'm in a state famous for the "free"way and over zealous highway patrol.

You've at least given us a sign that you can't read well. Might want to visit your local library. See my sig? Minivan is my sister's...he hasn't driven it in ages. If your monitor is too dirty to see it, might want to clean that too.

My dad is from Germany, and has extensive experience with MB's and high speed driving. He himself worked there for a number of years during college, and his father was one of the lead supervisors of the MB Sindelfingen Paint Dept for over 30 years. We took a c220 cdi up to the limiter on the autobahn a few years ago when we were there on a family trip.

Most comments I've seen from you are malicious in nature and not helpful or related to the threads. Why do you browse the forums to act in such a manner? Are you that bored?

Wow its like the OD except in the DD area. (eats some popcorn) Rather entertaining when I don't have to clean up the mess.

Hit that little report post triangle and we can take this to act 2.

I've filed suit with the report post triangle.

Don't for get to remove, take apart and clean the oil filter houseing. If particles get in the oil cooler they must be in the housing also.

if you do burn veg oil like your name says, perhaps it was a bit of the oil polymerization going on... I changed the oil for the first time on my newly acquired td yesterday and the PO had run it on SVO for a while... the oil felt... sticky, not normal.

well, I would say you have a lot of repairs to do, and money to spend. As far as the crankshaft goes, you may need to get a new or reconditioned one, with matching bearings. The next step is to have the connecting rod checked out at a machine shop for trueness. Usually when you loose a bearing, the connecting rod shells get banged around and are out of round or bent at a slight angle to the crankshaft journal. Looks great with the naked eye, but when measured at a shop, will show up. Left untreated, it will cause early bearing failure. Oil pan and related parts need to be cleaned as noted in earlier posts. As for running your car flat out, I would not recommend it unless you are willing to bear the consequences. When dealing with older cars, they are just like people. Being a senior citizen, I still have a lot of heart, and determination, but no matter how hard I try, I cannot run as fast as I did when I was 20....same goes for cars. Good luck with your vehicle

I might be out of line in speaking for Vegburner. But in my past conversations with him, he has not run any vegetable oil in this particular vehicle. He told me that this was the best/strongest running diesel he'd driven.

With that said, usually a piston rod bearing spins because it is starved for oil.
The bearing surface gets instantly trashed because of a lack of oil film separating the bearing and the journal. The lack of oil results in a great deal of friction between the two metals. The friction in turn, becomes so extreme that it overcomes the capability of the bearing tab (that is securing the bearing from turning with the journal) and viola ... spun bearing!

BTW Vegburner, you should post some pics so we can see what happened.

If all the other bearings were good. Then my guess is that there was debris in that rod area, whether it was in the oil galley in the crank or on the bearing surface itself. Something was there blocking the necessary amount of oil that should of been there.

These engines should be fine up to a little past 5000 RPMs with 5500 RPMs its limit. Less then 200,000 miles this engine is still young and should have been fine.

I rarely go that fast, I usually just keep up with traffic here in MI, which was averaging 86mph yesterday in the RIGHT lane. I was still being passed on the left by SUV's! People are crazy.

I only go fast if I am by myself on a huge open stretch.
I call BS on that one...

Only the 280CDI/320CDI/400CDI/420CDI's are able to hit 155mph. Not all CDI's are rocketships.

It took FOREVER to get the last 20km or so, but it DID get to 248-249km/hr with the pedal jammed to the floor for a long while....had to keep it in 5th gear at high rev's to keep it there, if you shifted to 6th it'd lose 35-40km/hr right away. We probably were on a slight downhill slope, who knows. I know I was intently watching the speedo and it stopped around 248ish, which is roughly 155mph.

The car only had 7,500km on it, so it was brand new.

How does any of this relate to a bearing failure?

We need to get this thread back on topic.

You guys talk about contamination getting in the oil cooler and to replace
it. I guess you figure it impossible to have it flushed.
yet when I was putting in my new engine last Sept. I was told by two
people locally here to have it flushed. one place to send it was a certified
shop that flushed air craft oil coolers. cost around $100.00.

So I posted that question here and the consenses I picked up here is
that it isn`t necessary, that`s what the oil filter is for.
So I didn`t send it in, I rinsed it with gas several times, the rinsed it with
wax and grease remover that I use when doing auto painting. then blew
it out with air. seemed to come out squeeky clean.
