To breach a trunk...

A long story short...I need to get into the trunk of my 79 240D; without the key that is. The trunk is unlocked, or would be if the vacuum system were working properly, and I can get into the car, ie, the doors are unlocked.
When I turn the key off the car will eventually shut off if all the doors are locked, but the trunk will only unlock manually.

Any ideas, or am I destined to bust the lock, and if so, any suggestions on knocking it out?

Search for a post on whacking just to the right of the lock assy with a 4x4 piece of wood (padded) while somebody pulls up on the trunk.
Haven't tried it, but it was discussed recently.....

Here it is:

1982 240D Trunk won't open

Or the more drastic approach:

Still cant open trunk. two weeks. No tools

You could locate the trunk vacuum line and suck on it to see if the leak lies elsewhere. If it does, you should be able to open it by sucking either with you mouth or a Mityvac.

Yup, look for the tee in the yellow/green vacuum line on the passenger's side floor. One of those lines goes to both the fuel door and the trunk.

There was a post on here about it on here. I distinctly remember they removed the med kit and used a pole with a coat hanger hook on the end. Thats all I remember and it may have been on a 126

Arthroscopic surgery

You're supposed to remove the med kit and its pan (two screws), then poke a stick through the hole into the trunk and use a wire attached to the end of the stick to trip the latch. If you use the search function you will find it.

Are you locked on the inside of the trunk lid, or on the outside of it....?

I'll try the 4X4 first, then suck on the the vacuum line; if that doesn't work I'll go fishing through the first aid kit hole. Barring all those I'll smash the right tail light out and remove the bolts to the hinge through that hole and the first aid kit hole.

fyi. Fixing the vacuum leak isn't an option until I get some parts thanks to some A**hole that busted my drivers door lock last night.

I'll let y'all know what worked.

Found the thread, it was by FUNOLA back in july.

Breaking into 123 trunk W/O breaking anything

www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=194141

This is the one opening with a stick going through the first aid kit area.

Well, this is a bit embarrassing, but I gotta tell ya. The damn keys were in the trunk. I fished ‘em out with a pole through the first aid kit hole, and well, used ‘em to open the trunk. Good thing I didn't go the chisel route first.

Now I’ll focus on the vacuum problem.

Thanks for all the advice. I learned a lot from this post that I’m certain to use at some point down the road; hopefully, on someone else’s, Benz.

Hey Charmalu, I still haven't found time to pull that radiator out of the box. New years project...
