Vredestein Tyres

Has any one had any experience with "Vredestein Tyres"?

I'm thinking the 195/70-14s I have on my '83 240D are too fat, they simply look out of place. Would also like something to cut thru the slushy wet snow we get here in Northern MD.

Have a distributor close by and can get them for ~80 bucks each for the 175R14 size ... Not too, too bad!

For that kind of money get name brand.

I'm getting these next, $125 each so pretty well priced. In your size they would be a lot less.

I also have the Bridgestone Turista tires, the older (and now out of production) "LS-H" product, on my '96 E300D. They were just under $100 each in the 225/55-R16 size. I'll probably put something similar on the '85 300D when the existing Pirelli P3000's (195/70 SR14) wear out. I've had Bridgestone tires on previous (non-Benz) cars for many years and have been happy with them.

If you can get a really good price on an off-brand tire it might be worth trying but "really good price" in that size, IMHO, would be $50 each or less.

BTW, 195/70-14 looks great on my 123 car and so should also look good on yours 'cause the body style is close to identical, your 240 and my 300.

As to performance in slush, I have had the 300D in snow country once and had no driving problems related to that tire size so you should also be OK, especially with new tires that have a deep tread pattern to pick up the slush and find the pavement beneath it.

I have a set of Vredestein's on my Porsche. The tread pattern looks perfect for the car. I can't say much about the snow traction since the car is in storage now, but the dry pavement is pretty damn good.

Those bridgestones don't seem to come in 14s, but I've used some pretty decent firestones in 14 inch sizes. The Vredesteins aren't really "no name" tires, they are supposed to be pretty decent.

If having the look of the original equipment size of 175R-14 is important, Vredestein is the only manufacturer that currently makes this size.

I have them on my 240D. They are a well regarded manufacturer and they do make a good tire. They ride very nicely though I can't say how they do in anything other than warm, dry weather. I've never had the car out in anything but!

We had a set of Vredesteins on my wagon, and on the SL600. We are looking to get a set for my G500.

They are good tires, quiet on the freeway, and wear like iron.

Dry traction is pretty good, with wet traction being good.

I like Vredestein. They make a very good tire, and they are name brand, just not in this country. They are made in the Netherlands. They also have quality control standards.

Would I buy another set? Hell yes! They are awesome tires.

i have them on my 96 e320 cab; they are really really good tires; always come out well in tests; under rated as they dont advertise as much as the big known brands.

The size that I priced out is 225/55/16, H rated $125, V rated $135.

I'll have to look into these Vredestein tires, I have never heard of them.

My old indy used to sell them (special order), I don't think they are available through many chain stores.

Then its probably not worth hunting for them. Bridgestones from Tirerack.com are only a few clicks away.

Yup, and it's easy to get them replaced anywhere, if you ever need just one.

Look on ebay for them. That's where I have been running into Vredesteins. I primarily use Edgeracing.com and Tirerack.com for my tires. I check Tires.com as well, but because of pricing I've never bought from them before.

$80 each? Are winter tires really that much?

Never had Vredstein's on a car, but their road bicycle tires are superior to anything else I've ridden. The clinchers feel like a good silk sewup used to ride - smooth, supple, and very fast.

If you know what a sewup is, you're old.
