I have yet to buy a new gasket. It has been suggested and I say its good advice to do the valves, drive around a few hundred miles and recheck.

Check your IP timing and have the injectors poptested.

FWIW Germany has no problems with Cuba last time I checked.

I suggest you test the injectors and see if they are spraying correctly. I just skipped the DP because you cannot KNOW for sure what is happening, unlike if you have the injectors out and tested.

For some reason whatever condition exists causes the engine to smoke while burning diesel and not smoke when running DP.

As far as I can tell that is because:

-Diesel Purge will not smoke, at least not in my engine in its current condition.

The smoke can't be motor oil either since it doesn't smoke when running DP.

I am going to adjust the valves tomorrow and see if this helps.

Has anybody seen smoke when running Diesel Purge? If so, it would be easier to believe that my problem is NOT injectors/nozzles assuming the smoke wasn't oil.
I also ran B20 for about three months in two thirds of my fillups for a total of 15K miles. I presume that this would also have helped clean up my fuel delivery system but after seeing the darkness that the Diesel Purge became I am not so convinced of B20's cleaning prowess.

Any suggestions other than injector/nozzle possibilities?
How do you adjust IP timing and what would cause it to get out of whack?

Reuse valve cover gasket

This is what I do: We have 99 cent and Dollar stores where I live. I get one tube of silicone sealent 99 cents and 1 can of brake cleaner 99 cents.
(Your old gasket must have some flexability to it if it is brittle and you can break a piece off with your finger nail you need a new one.) Carefully remove the old one. Clean the oil out of the inside groove of the gasket followed by a good spray of brake cleaner to degrease it. Let it dry and put a continious bead of silicone inside the bottom of the groove. Wipe the oil off of the lip of the valve cover and spray a clean rag with brake cleaner and wipe/degrease the edge of the valve cover and up about 1/2 inch from the bottom on each of the sides.
Install the valve cover gasket but do not push it completly just enough for it to stay on the valve cover. Spray brake cleaner on a clean rag and wipe/degrease the bottom edge of the valve cover gasket and let it dry.
While it is drying get a clean rag and wipe off the oil/dirt from around the cylinder head where the valve cover seats and spray brake cleaner on a clean rag wipe/degrease that area also.
Put a thin coating of silicone sealent around the bottom of the valve cover gasket.
Install the valve cover and turn the valve cover bolts down evenly tight enough to squeze out the silisone (about 1/2 tight). Let is sit for a couple of hours and cure than tighten it up as you normally would.
When you go to reused this gasket leave it attatched (it should now be glued to the valve cover) to the valve cover. Clean the old silicone off of the bottom of the valve cover do the wipe and degrease as before; recoat with thin layer of silicone on the bottom edge and reinstall. This time you can just tighten it as you normaly would.
I think it took longer to write this than it dose to do it!

I replaced the gasket last time so it should be fine to reuse as long as I didn't damage it when I tightened the valve cover down.

I adjusted the valves today and it seems to run better/smoother. Still a little smoke but I will let it ride for the rest of this tank of fuel and check them all again.

Is it possible I didn't tighten the adjusting nuts enough last time? Only three valves were still properly adjusted. The others were a pretty good ways off.

I will check again after this tank (about 180 miles) and see what they look like.

They always run better on the purge. Have your injectors tested for spray pattern. Dollars to donuts one or more is dribbling fuel and causing your smoke. Sometimes it is hard to differentiate white smoke from incomplete combustion from blue oil smoke.
