Smile Aux Water Pump location w126 86 300SDL

Hi just picked up a nice low mileage sdl that came from Texas one owner and i do have 79 300d. looking for the aux water pump on the SDL cant seem to find i believe it is located near the monovalve in between the two firewalls which i just changed today, location required..............really impressed with the sdl it is like driving the Queen Mary compared to the 300d and what a smooth engine.

thanks

Subscribe to EPC online, it's free and you should be able to view the water pump location. http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/

The aux pump is right next to the monovalve. You can't see it because of the ABS computer that sits above it. Move the ABS computer and look down and there it is. The electrical plug for the aux pump sits in a metal sleeve that hangs onto the monovalve. The easiest way to replace this is to remove battery, remove windshield washer tank, remove ABS computer, unscrew the two screws that hold on the EDS test connection on the second firewall, and then remove the 4 bolts that hold on the center section of the second firewall.
Then you will see the monovalve and the aux pump and the heater hoses in all of their glory. Also raise the hood to the complete vertical position for easy access.

Good Luck

Thumbs up

Thanks John, yes i did see the ABS computer but wasn`t sure what was underneath, bought this car in Eugene Oregon three weeks ago that was shipped from texas then drove it back to Brandon, Manitoba, i can tell you the last three days were bloody cold with little heat especially going through northern montana and in north dakota.

Have you checked the monovalve insert? There are 4 screws and an electrical connector on top of the monovalve. Remove these and lift the internal guts out of the monovalve. You will see it is bascically a plunger that has a rubber diaphragm on it. These tend to get old and rip. Sometimes just a little hole, sometimes completely torn. Your climate contorl system will do all sorts of crazy things when the insert is not working well. Things like heat for 30 seconds then no heat until you turn car off and then on again.

The Climate control pusbutton unit on the 86 has a circuit breaker inside of it that will trip when it senses a fault or a short in the system. When you turn the car off and then on again, it resets until it shorts again.

What are your symptoms? I just spent a weekend fixing my system on my 86 300sdl. It works like a champ now.

If you have hands the size of a three year old you will be able to remove it easily.
