Question regarding the air cleaning assembly

Mine is obviously broken, there is a bracket or mount that is broken/missing so the whole assembly is leaning over and touching the fender well. The intake tube to the turbo is not connected properly and it rattling a bit.

I am hoping to get a unit at a salvage yard but.....

I was wondering if anyone has simply removed it and stuck a K&N on the end of the elbow that comes off the turbo inlet?

I can't see any reason why that would not work. I would have to cap off the vent on top of the valve cover, would that create a problem or is there an alternative?

Is there another passage way to the intake manifold under the air cleaner or does it all go through the turbo or am I a complete idiot and need to go to the corner?

You just need to get the mounts they are cheap.Go to the buy parts tab at the top of the page they are under 2 dollars. you could put the filter on the end of the turbo but you cant cap the valve cover vent. If it were me and i didn't replace the mounts and put a different filter on then i would put a oil catch can connected to the vent.
